The much-anticipated sequel to Overwatch is just around the corner. With several beta tests under its belt, seasoned players of Blizzard's FPS will want to know all about the Overwatch 2 maps, to see whether fan favourites make a return, and which new shooting grounds they'll soon be able to explore.

In this Overwatch 2 guide, we'll go through all the details we have so far on the five confirmed and upcoming maps in the game. That's on top of a look at returning maps that will also appear in the sequel after stamping their place in Overwatch fandom from the franchise's first flight.

All New Overwatch 2 Maps

The following five maps are confirmed to be brand-new for Overwatch 2:

  • Circuit Royal
  • Midtown
  • New Queen Street
  • Colosseo
  • Rio De Janeiro

Little is currently known about them given the game is still a reasonable way off from release, but the names are concrete. Read on for the finer details.

Mixed-Use Maps

Rio De Janeiro

The final map we know about so far is set in Rio De Janeiro, and was initially revealed in the June 2022 beta. It's also one of the first maps being used in the Story Experience mode. Overwatch 2's narrative hinges on a climactic battle there, with the Null Sector attacking while our heroes try to repel them.

As such, expect it to feature quite heavily in the new narrative sections. With locations including a rundown office block and a dingy bar, it's set to be one of the biggest maps in the game.

Escort Maps

Circuit Royal

The first new map was initially called Monte Carlo before changing to Circuit Royal. Announced when Overwatch 2 was first confirmed back in 2019, this dark metropolitan map is used in the Escort game mode.

Little else is currently known, though it has been accessible in the Overwatch 2 beta. As such, we should learn more about it very soon.

Midtown

Midtown is a brighter map that you'll find when playing the Escort game mode. It was shown off at BlizzCon 2021, revealing its 1950s design inspiration, and key locations like Grand Central Terminal and Mario's Place. It's also set to appear in the beta, for players to test for the first time.

Push Maps

New Queen Street

Originally called Toronto, you'll find New Queen Street in the Push mode. There's little information out there aside from its Canadian setting, but it will appear in a snowier variety in the story mode.

Colosseo

Another new map we know about is called Colosseo, and also features in the Push mode. Fittingly set in Rome, the legendary Colosseum provides the backdrops for some competitive action. Even better, those with access to the Overwatch 2 beta will be able to give it a go.

All Returning Overwatch 2 Maps

On top of that, seasoned Overwatch players will be pleased to know that all the maps from the base 2016 game return in the sequel.

Blizzard is positioning Overwatch 2 as its own separate game, but with extensive cross-play ability with the original. Therefore, it works in both ways: older maps are playable on Overwatch 2, and new maps are also present on Overwatch.

Rather confusingly, it means that the brand-new maps for Overwatch 2 will also appear for players still on the original. It may arise questions as to why Blizzard are bothering with a standalone sequel, but it makes sense to prevent losing too much of Overwatch's astoundingly large player base.

As such, expect to be able to play classics like Havana and Busan in the sequel. Equally, they should enjoy some graphical improvements to accommodate the new game's enhanced performance, so it'll be worth diving back in.
